Dmitry Korchak is now the Principal Guest Conductor of the theatre

The first time this outstanding musician combining opera singing and conducting stood up the conductor’s desk at NOVAT in summer 2017: he conducted the gala concert featured with world opera stars, which closed Veronika Dzhioeva opera festival.

Vladimir Kekhman and Dmitry Korchak have signed a contract nominating Dmitry to the post of the Principal Guest Conductor of NOVAT. The contract expires in 2020. The first performance of this season to be conducted by Dmitry Korchak will become Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” on 16th November. One of the most important happenings of this season will be the gala opening of the renovated Isidor Zak concert hall.

2nd December, the big opening day Dmiry Korchak will conduct Gioachino Rossini’s “Stabat Mater” – the genius piece for wind instruments, the proven peak of the great Italian composer; the musical community will mark 150 years from the day of his death in 2018. The performance will be featured with the symphonic orchestra and the chorus of the Novosibirsk theatre, world opera stars Veronika Dzhioeva (soprano, NOVAT), Yuliya Matochkina (mezzo-soprano, Mariinsky theatre), Lawrence Brownlee (USA), René Pape (bass, Germany). Vladimir Kekhman, Director General of NOVAT stated: “Next year it will be ten years since we got acquainted with Dmitry Korchak. I appreciate him as an outstanding singer and I admire his conducting talents. I’m sure his conducting career will be just as successful. The Novosibirsk theatre and me personally are ready to support him and provide any assistance needed to advance in this area”.

Dmitry Korchak, the Principal Guest Conductor of NOVAT stated: “I feel happy and I’m very grateful to Vladimir Kekhman for his permission to open the concert hall with Rossini’s great music. This composer is a significant figure in my music career and I am looking forward to feeling all the depth and glory of “Stabat Mater” from behind the conductor’s desk. The more especially, since it will be performed by real opera stars and my friends at the same time, the people who happily accepted my invitation to Novosibirsk”.

Dritry Korchak is a graduate of Sveshnikov Choral Art College. After his graduation he continued his studies at the Choral Art Academy at two faculties – conducting and vocal and then received a postgraduate degree. He is a winner of a Youth Prize “Triumph”, winner of many vocal competitions, including the one named after of Glinka, Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition, Placido Domingo’s Operalia International Competition in Los-Angeles.

Dmitry Korchak performs tenor repertoire at the best opera stages of the world like La Scala, La Monnaie, The Vienna State Opera, Opéra Bastille, Covent Garden; he participates at the biggest music festivals including Salzburg, Pesaro, Colmar.

His talent and hard work let him become a brilliant opera star, and the same destiny waits for him in his conducting career – he stepped on this path in the previous year.
