Svetlana Zakharova

National Artist of Russia, laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation

Laureate of “Golden Mask” award, laureate of an international competition

She studied at the Kyiv choreographic college, and then at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. After finishing the academy in 1996 she joined the Mariinsky Company, where she performed parts of classical and modern repertoire. In 2003 she moved to the Bolshoi theatre. Her repertoire includes: Giselle (“Giselle”), Odette-Odile (“Swan Lake”), Nikiya (“La Bayadère”), Princess Aurora (“Sleeping Beauty”), Kitri (“Don Quixote”), Raymonda (“Raymonda”), Medora (“La Corsaire”), Aspicia (“Pharaoh’s Daughter”), Aegina (“Spartacus”), Mekhmene Banu (“A Legend of Love”), Anastasiya (“Ivan the Terrible”), Hippolyta/Titania (“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”), Marguerite Gautier (“The Lady of the Camellias”), Cinderella (“Cinderella”), Mary (“A Hero of Our Time”), Carmen (“Carmen Suite”), leading roles in ballets: “Symphony in C”, “Serenade”, “Jewels” (“Diamonds”), “Le Jeune Homme et la Mort”, and other. A number of artistic meetings with the ballerina were held on the stage of the Bolshoi theatre (2005, 2009, 2013), as well as her personal international project “Amore” (2016, 2017). She participated in a choreographic divertissement during the closing ceremony of 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi (leading part in a mini-ballet performance “Natasha Rostova’s first ball”, 2014).

She performed with ballet companies of New York City Ballet, Bavarian State Opera, Opéra National de Paris, English National Ballet, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, New National Theatre in Tokyo, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, John Neumeier Hamburg Ballet, Teatro Regio di Parma, Latvian National Opera, Berlin State Ballet, and numerous other theatres in Russia and abroad. She gives performances with a worldwide known violin player Vadim Repin as a part of their project “Pas-de-deux on fingertips and for fingertips” in Russia and abroad. Svetlana is the first one among Russian “etoile” artists in La Scala Ballet Company (2008).
