Main April events in NOVAT

There are a lot of new interesting events destined to please the audience in April playbill – world opera and ballet stars appearances, premieres of new concert programmes and the world premiere of César Cui’s opera fairy-tale for children “Little Red Riding Hood”. The Novosibirsk opera soloists, choir and symphonic orchestra of the theatre under Principal conductor Dmitri Jurowski will perform Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in Russian language on 22 April at NOVAT main stage. This unique concert is a dedication to all victims of Siege of Leningrad, which 75th anniversary is celebrated this year. World opera star mezzo-soprano Julia Gertseva will perform the title role in Bizet’s “Carmen” on 5 April. The fascinating singer performed Carmen in world’s best opera houses. She also took part in the Novosibirsk production at “Golden Mask” festival. That time the production was staged in St.-Petersburg at the Mariinsky theatre and in Moscow at the Bolshoi theatre of Russia.

World famous Italian conductor Alberto Veronesi is to conduct Verdi’s operatic masterpieces at NOVAT in April: 7 April he will step to conductor’s stand for “Aida” opera; 9 April he will conduct “Traviata” production. The youngest members of the audience and their parents are invited to NOVAT on 14 April for “Little Red Riding Hood” opera. Production’s Stage director Vyacheslav Starodubtsev stated: “We may confidently call it a world premiere. First, there was no orchestration for Cui’s “Little Red Riding Hood” and the theatre’s Principal conductor Dmitri Jurowski is making an orchestral revision. In addition to that, we will update Cui’s musical material with excerpts from Boyko’s opera “Song in the Woods”. This will be an opera in the style of kids’ board games, also known as adventure games.” Already familiar to the Novosibirsk audience opera stars will perform title roles in “Barber of Seville” on 14 April – fascinating Vasilisa Berzhanskaya as Rosina, and Italian tenor Alessandro Luciano as Count Almaviva. Figaro will be performed by Pavel Yankovsky. Y. Grigorovich’s legendary “Spartacus” ballet will be performed on the main stage of NOVAT on 17 and 18 April. World ballet star Ivan Vasiliev will perform Spartacus on 17 April, an on 18 April the title role will be presented by NOVAT principal dancer, ballet admirers’ beloved artist Roman Polkovnikov. 23 April a unique event will take place at NOVAT – a joint performance of young talented musicians of the Novosibirsk special music school’s junior symphony orchestra and young talented ballet artists – students of the Novosibirsk state choreographic school. The joint project of two federal institutions is unprecedented in Russia and comes as a part of the National project “Russian Culture”. Concert programme will include orchestral pieces and ballet routines from works of Russian and foreign composers. NOVAT Musical director and Principal conductor Dmitri Jurowski will present a new programme in Isidor Zak concert hall on 28 April. The concert will go under the title “Man of La Mancha’s windmills” and will include musical pieces inspired by the legendary character of Don Quixote, Knight of the Sad Countenance from Cervantes’ ageless novel. Dmitri Jurowski will perform as both conductor and cellist.
